The event “Reactivating Rural Futures: Smart Rehabilitation and Contemporary Valorisation of Traditional Minor Centres in the Madonie UNESCO Geopark” is conceived as a transdisciplinary forum focused on the regeneration and contemporary valorisation of minor centres and rural inner areas, with specific reference to the Madonie UNESCO Global Geopark. The initiative investigates the role of cultural, architectural, and landscape heritage as a driver for sustainable development, social cohesion, and the reinforcement of local identity, in line with the New European Bauhaus principles. Adopting a multilevel and participatory approach, the forum brings together institutions, local communities, scholars, professionals, and young people through activities of dialogue, co-design, and knowledge exchange, supported by case studies from Sicily, Europe, and the Mediterranean. Particular attention is given to the relationship between tangible and intangible heritage and to the integration of tradition and innovation, aiming to identify replicable models for the regeneration of inner areas. The programme combines theoretical sessions, interactive workshops, and exhibition moments, promoting participatory governance processes and local capacity building, also through digital tools and hybrid formats. The event seeks to generate a lasting impact by fostering cooperation among the 26 municipalities of the Madonie area and by advancing sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality approaches to the built and lived environment.
