Visiting Professor / International Guest
Within the framework of international collaboration with universities and research institutes, tenured professors, researchers, and highly qualified experts from foreign universities, research institutions, and higher education bodies may be appointed as Visiting Professors, Visiting Researchers, or Visiting Fellows.
This applies to individuals invited to carry out teaching or research activities at the University of Palermo for a minimum period of one month, including those participating under International Cooperation Agreements.
A Visiting Professor is a tenured professor or a highly qualified scholar invited to carry out teaching and training activities within a degree programme offered by the University of Palermo. This teaching collaboration, lasting a minimum of one month, includes lecture series, seminars, conferences, and shared educational initiatives.
A Visiting Researcher is a researcher with proven qualifications invited to carry out research activities in collaboration with scholars from the University of Palermo, based within the relevant department or structure of the University.
A Visiting Fellow is a researcher invited to carry out research activities under the supervision of scholars from the University of Palermo, based within the relevant department or structure of the University.
This scientific collaboration, lasting a minimum of one month, is carried out through research activities within the University’s laboratories, joint scientific cooperation initiatives.

Visiting Professor
Dr. Sine Plambech is an anthropologist and Senior Researcher at DIIS - Danish Institute for International Studies, Copenhagen.
Dr. Plambech is an award winning scholar of international migration and is in particular engaged in questions of critical trafficking, migration and refugee studies, women’s migration, border politics, transnational feminism, migrant sex work, marriage migration, labor migration, and the representations of these themes through visual anthropology and film making.
She has continuously carried out fieldwork and filmed in migrant communities, border areas, red light districts, and along migrant routes from and in Southern Nigeria, North East Thailand, Sicily, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
Based on her research she is behind six award-winning films, among them RESCUE (2026) Heartbound (2018); Becky’s Journey (2014) and Trafficking (2010). Her films seek to pose counter-narratives to dominant portrayals of migration, family, borders and women as migrants.
While at UNIPA Dr. Plambech will teach the "Anthropology and Contemporary Worlds" course within the international track (taught in English) of the Bachelor’s degree program in Economics and International Cooperation for Sustainable Development. She will also give talks in PhD Program “Migration, Differences and Social Justice”, film screenings and share her methods, conduct her own research and work on her forthcoming book.
