The Religioni e Culture program is an Inter-University Master’s Degree with an international focus, taught in Italian and jointly offered by the University of Palermo (Department Culture and Society) and the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Palermo, part of a joint degree agreement. The program draws on the educational resources of the Foundation for Religious Sciences (FSCIRE) in Bologna.

The establishment of an inter-university degree program between a state university and a pontifical faculty is made possible by the agreement between the Italian Republic and the Holy See of February 13, 2019, on the recognition of ecclesiastical degrees (incorporated into Presidential Decree No. 63 of May 27, 2019), a consequence of both States’ accession to the Lisbon Convention and the Bologna Process.

The degree program aims to provide students with the tools to understand contemporary religious phenomena through an analysis of the methodologies, history, hermeneutics, and cultural representations characteristic of the three major monotheistic religions. The final scope is to provide graduates with the with the necessary tools to understand contemporary religious phenomena through an analysis of the methodologies, history, hermeneutics, and cultural representations characteristic of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
