Description:

The Industrial Bioengineering scientific sector operates at the Department of Engineering and focuses on the promotion of research and teaching activities in the field of engineering methodologies in processes related to life sciences. Industrial Bioengineering integrates engineering concepts and tools with life sciences to develop innovative solutions in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, and healthcare sectors. In addition, the sector is involved in the development and application of advanced technologies, such as the design of bioreactor and microfluidic devices, cell culture, and fabrication of porous biomaterials.

Areas of research currently carried out by researchers belonging to the Scientific Sector:

engineering of artificial tissues and organs for regenerative medicine;

design, fabrication and implementaion of biopolymeric scaffolds for Tissue Engineering applications;

development of bioreactors for application in tissue regeneration and pharmacology;

development of microfluidic devices for real-time monitoring of biological parameters;

development of new biomimetic materials for industrial and medical applications.
