LM 6 – ECOLOGIA MARINA

 

Educational objectives – professional opportunities for graduates

This 2nd cycle degree course aims at providing a deep understanding of Basic and Applied Biology, in the branches of Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Population and Community Ecology. In addition, students learn the processes through which organisms adapt to different environments.

Upon graduation students of this course should:

 - be equipped with adequate experimental and analytical ecological grounding in interface environments, such as ponds, lagoons, coastal depths, estuaries;

 - have good knowledge of the turnover cycles of organic substances and of the production systems in the marine environment and interface waters;

 - know the bases of biodiversity of relevant ecosystems and be able to control and evaluate the effects of anthropic actions upon water ecosystems;

 - know the methods of the principal instrumental analysis, and the analytical tools themselves, together with the techniques of data acquisition and analysis in the field of biological oceanography;

 - have developed a good command of the scientific research methods to enter the international scientific community;

 - be able to present scientific data through the most modern methodologies.

 

Graduates of this Course might find professional opportunities in:

 • public and private research centres;

 • public bodies (regions, provinces, municipalities) running marine protected areas;

 • Repopulation consortia;

 • Aquaculture and marine aquaculture companies;

 • Floral-faunal and environment monitoring consulting companies;

 • public bodies supervising environmental control and monitoring;

 • fishing and fish transformation companies;

 • public bodies and consulting companies in the field of fishing and dealing with the management of coastal areas;

 • doctoral programmes and acknowledged specialisation courses both in public and private sector.
