📋English Language requirements for English-taught Programmes

Applicants are required to demonstrate an adequate level of English language proficiency in order to successfully attend courses and participate in academic activities. The University of Palermo accepts the following internationally recognized certifications:
- IELTS Academic (IELTS): minimum score 5.5;
- TOEFL iBT (ETS): minimum score 72;
- Pearson Test of English (PTE – General and Academic): minimum score ≥ 46;
- Trinity ISE II–IV (Trinity College London);
- British Institutes Certification (British Institutes);
- Cambridge English Qualifications (Cambridge University Press & Assessment English).
Applicants may be exempt from submitting an English language certificate in the following cases:
- they hold a qualification obtained in a degree programme taught entirely in English;
- they have obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma with a programme taught entirely in English;
- they are applying for a programme for which an English-language standardised admission test is already required, where explicitly recognised for admission purposes.
📋Italian Language requirements for Italian-taught Programmes

Applicants to degree programmes taught in Italian who require a visa must demonstrate Italian language proficiency at CEFR B2 level or higher. Knowledge of Italian is a mandatory requirement for admission to programmes taught in Italian. Candidates who do not hold a recognised Italian language certification and who are not exempt may be required to take an Italian language proficiency test organised by the University.

Applicants may be exempt from the Italian language test/certificate in cases such as:

holding an Italian upper secondary school diploma obtained at an Italian state school or an officially recognised Italian school abroad;

holding an Italian language certification issued within the CLIQ quality system at B2 level or higher.
