Harnessing the power of genome-wide screens and artificial intelligence: rediscovering cell

biology from omics to single molecule.

The lecture will give an introduction of different state-of-the-art genome-wide screening methodologies and

how to use machine learning (i.e. artificial intelligence) to automatically classify single cells into distinct

phenotypic classes. The follow-up phase of the screens will be the central part of the talk, which will focus on

virus-cell interactions.

Imaging viral infection in live cells at single-molecule resolution: One flew over the virus nest

In this lecture the principles of super-resolution microscopy will be introduced, particularly PALM and

dSTORM, and how to use these imaging techniques to study single proteins in live cells during a viral

infection. How to adapt these technologies and approaches to other biological systems to study any aspect of

cell biology will also be discussed.
