Abstract

Pirandello drew his stories from Girgenti, from his 'small homeland' and his characters are not abstract constructions, ideal types, masks constructed at a desk in the middle of books. But we need to understand what these Girgentine characters had that was so peculiar as to become Pirandellian characters. What is Pirandellian about the Girgentans?
