Abstract

Within the broad reappraisal of Seneca’s tragic production, the perspective of Reception Studies stands out: it constitutes to all intents and purposes one of the most interesting strands of mythic variations. Within this sphere, the novel by the German writer Christa Wolf Medea. Voices deserves special consideration. As part of a more general interest in ancient and in particular pre-Euripidean sources relating to the Medea myth, Wolf is aware of the Senecan version, which she uses explicitly, modelling some significant segments of her brilliant narrative construction on it
