Giorgio Manno graduated in Geological Sciences at Palermo University in 2002. He discussed the original thesis “Geology of the Mirabella Mountain area” under the supervision of Prof. Raimondo Catalano. Since February 2003 he has been member of the Professional Association of Geologists of Sicily and carried out several professional and research studies on geomorphologic and coastal topics. In 2006 he received the Academic title of Expert in “Geology applied to engineering” which allowed him to carry out educational activity at the School of Engineering of Palermo University - Department of Civil, Environmental, Aerospace, Materials Engineering (DICAM). In 2012 he took the title of Ph.D. in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering at the University of Palermo, discussing the original thesis “Shoreline localization on sandy and stable beaches, considering wave and tidal fluctuations” made under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Ciraolo and Prof. Vincenzo Liguori. The thesis focused the effects of waves and tides on the shoreline localization. As a Ph.D. student (in the period 2009-2011) he attended a course on hydrometric and hydrodynamic measurements at the Department of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary). His peculiar background of geologist having also specific knowledge in the field of hydraulic engineering enables him to carry out multidisciplinary research in the fields of geomorphology, coastal monitoring and coastal risk.
