Degree in Chemistry (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Palermo. Researcher at the same University in 1992, then at the University of Manchester in 1994-1995 in the research group of Prof. E. J. Thomas. Associate Professor at the University of Palermo in 2000, then Full Professor in 2006. Co-author of 120 publications, 7 book chapters and co-editor of a book (Wiley). Ha has/had several international and national collaborations: Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, University of Basel, University of Leuven, ETH Zurich, University of Namur, Università di Bologna, Università di Perugia, Università di Trieste. Component of the Management Committee of the COST Action "ORganoCAtalysis" CM0905 (2011-2014). Research interest in organocatalysis, asymmetric synthesis, recyclable catalysts, carbon nanomaterial-based catalysts, ionic liquids and ionic liquid-based catalysts. Research Prize 2015 "Organic Chemistry in its synthetic aspects (methodologies and products)" awarded by the Division of Organic Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society. Member of International Advisory Board of ChemCatChem (2017-).

  • Nato a Sciacca (1964), Laurea in Chimica (110/110 e lode) conseguita presso l'Università degli Studi di Palermo nel 1988. Ricercatore nel gruppo del Prof. Renato Noto nel 1992, Prof. Associato (Chimica Organica, CHIM/06) nel 2000, Prof. Ordinario nel 2006. Ricercatore presso l'Università di Manchester nel gruppo del Prof. E. J. Thomas nel 1994-1995.
