Archeologia Virtuale a Hierapolis di Frigia: la restituzione dell’immagine della città

Abstract

Inside the Italian Archaeological Mission in Hierapolis of Phrygia activities it has been developed an ambitious plan to return the image of the Hellenistic-Roman and Byzantine city called ‘Virtual Hierapolis’, aimed at the restoration and virtual three-dimensional reconstruction of the monumental complex object investigation by the various research teams. The project, coordinated by Francesco D’Andria, is led by the writer in the Laboratory of Applied Archaeology, University of Salento and benefits from the collaboration of archaeologists, architects and restorers operating in each of the Mission’s research units, belonging the IBAM-CNR himself and a number of universities, both Italian and foreign, who, through their research, have contributed to the project by providing all the scientific data required for the construction of the models and the compilation of virtual restoration hypotheses. The goal of the project is the study of the urban topography transformations of Hierapolis in Phrygia, with the aim of restoring the image of the Hellenistic-Roman and Byzantine city through the analysis and reconstruction of individual diachronic monuments both within the urban perimeter, today defined by walls built after the earthquake of the mid-fourth century. A.D., both in the immediate vicinity of the city.
