Abstract
The aim of the study was the assessment of the clinical reliability of clinical examination of the axillary lymph nodes for the correct staging of breast cancer. The survey was conducted by comparing the preoperative clinical data with the histological examination of the lymph nodes removed dur ing surgery. After an analysis of the data on breast cancer patients it is concluded that the technique is invalid since it gives a high percentage of false negative (38.7 %) and false posiLive ( 12 % ) and is also affected by factors like the obesity of the patient and the expe rience of the clinician.
