Abstract
The essay reconstructs a genealogy of social and political scientists who, since the birth of the Italian Republic, asked for an anti-party presidential transformation. From many quarters it was asked to move to a second Republic that seemed to be realized in the early nineties, with the birth of the League and Forza Italy and the collapse of the Republic of parties.
