We are delighted to announce that the work of the online workshop Law, Language, and Gender: the way forward (organized by the Sir William Dale Centre at the IALS in association with the Association of English Studies in Italy (AIA) and the Department of Political Science and International Relations (DEMS) – University of Palermo) was successfully concluded on 7 July 2021.

Law, Language, and Gender: the way forward is the 8th workshop in a row on the “Legislative Drafting and Language” project, which was launched in 2013 at the IALS. This project, based at the Sir William Dale Centre for Legislative Studies and organized by Prof. Giulia Pennisi, has produced seven other workshops organised on an annual basis around different themes, and each year has been honoured by the participation of eminent scholars and experts in the fields of law, legislative drafting, and language.

Three important themes have been discussed in the workshop Law, Language, and Gender: the way forward: “Gender neutrality and Westminster”; “Learning from other legislative experiences”; and “Gender and language”. Given the large number of attendees at these annual events and the stimulating debate on the issued raised by the speakers, we ae already preparing next year’s sessions of dialogue among legal experts, drafters, and linguists.
