J. J. Moreso – Professor of Legal Philosophy, Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain
J. J. Moreso, born in Tortosa, Spain in 1959, is a distinguished Professor of Legal Philosophy at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He holds both a Law degree and a Ph.D. from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he was awarded extraordinary prizes for his academic excellence. His research focuses on the philosophical foundations of constitutionalism, the interpretation of law, and judicial reasoning.
Throughout his career, Professor Moreso has held prominent academic positions, including Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Girona, and visiting roles at several European and Latin American universities, such as Bologna, Palermo, Roma Tre, Genoa, ITAM in Mexico, and Diego Portales in Chile. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at Oxford, Buenos Aires, and Genoa. He holds honorary doctorates from the Universidad de Valparaíso (Chile), Universidad Antenor Orrego Trujillo (Peru), and the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Professor Moreso has authored over ten books and more than 200 scholarly articles and book chapters. His recent publications include Lo normativo: variedades y variaciones (Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales, Madrid, 2020) and the article “On the Exclusionary Scope of Razian Reasons” (Ratio Juris, 2024).
He served as Rector of Pompeu Fabra University from 2005 to 2013 and as President of the Agency for the Quality of Universities in Catalonia (AQU) from 2013 to 2022. He is actively involved in academic governance and ethics, holding roles such as member of the Ethics Committee of Barcelona City Council, co-director of the Philosophy and Law collection at Marcial Pons, and serving on editorial boards of journals including Ratio Juris, Doxa, and Anales de la Cátedra Francisco Suárez.
Professor Moreso has led numerous research projects funded by both the Spanish and Catalan governments, including the 2023 UNIT OF EXCELLENCE MARÍA DE MAEZTU for BIAP at Pompeu Fabra University, with a budget of 2 million euros. His work extends to public lectures and distinguished talks at institutions across Europe and Latin America, highlighting his expertise in legal philosophy and the practical implications of law and morality.
He has also contributed extensively to international academic collaborations, teaching as Visiting Professor at Università di Bologna, Università di Roma Tre, Universidad Diego Portales, Università degli Studi di Genova, and serving as Visiting Fellow at the University of Palermo (2024). Professor Moreso continues to shape contemporary legal philosophy through research, teaching, and global academic engagement.
