Erasmus (now into the wider Erasmus+) is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. It provide sopportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, and gain experience abroad, for a time period from 3 to 12 months. Erasmus+ doesn't just have opportunities for students. Merging seven prior programmes, it has opportunities for a wide variety of individuals and organisations.

Set to last until 2020, its main news concern:

possibility of taking the Erasmus route more than once during the course of studies
opening of Erasmus projects also to recent graduates
inclusion of non-EU countries (country partners)

All students must be enrolled at their University throughout the year which includes the Erasmus period and it is necessary not to have already used the maximum number of months of planned mobility. The student must also keep this inscription until the end of the Erasmus and be in good standing with the payment of tuition fees at the time of enrollment in the project. There are also requirements related to the language of the country in which Erasmus will be made, and these change according to the requests of the individual university: it will therefore be necessary to provide the certifications required to demonstrate the level of knowledge of the language.

The aim of Erasmus+ is to contribute to the Europe 2020 strategy for growth, jobs, social equity and inclusion, as well as the aims of ET2020, the EU's strategic framework for education and training.

Erasmus+ also aims to promote the sustainable development of its partners in the field of higher education, and contribute to achieving the objectives of the EU Youth Strategy.
