Doctoral Board
Ascolta
The Doctoral Board is the academic body that governs and coordinates a doctoral program.
What is it?
It is the group of professors and researchers who:
- plan the doctoral program,
- define the program offerings,
- supervise scientific and teaching activities,
- evaluate the progress of doctoral students,
- approve or change supervisors,
- authorize periods abroad, seminars, and exams,
- approve admission to the final exam and thesis defense.
- The doctoral college is established by Ministerial Decree 226/2021.
Who is part of it?
- full and associate professors,
- tenured and fixed-term researchers,
- possibly external experts (in some cases).
- The PhD Committee elects a PhD coordinator, who directs the program.
Why it's important
The PhD Committee is important for a PhD student because:
- it assigns a tutor/supervisor,
- annually evaluates progress and decides on progression to subsequent years,
- approves the thesis project,
- decides whether to admit a student to the final defense.
- It is, in effect, the body "responsible" for the proper conduct of the PhD.
