Doctoral Program Coordinators
Who they are
This is the professor who leads and represents the entire doctoral program.
What they do
The coordinator:
- directs the doctoral program and oversees its organization;
- convenes and chairs the Teaching Board;
- ensures that the program complies with regulations (Ministerial Decree 226/2021);
- coordinates teaching activities, seminars, and internal procedures;
- supervises the publication of calls for applications and candidate selection procedures;
- monitors the regularity of the annual doctoral student evaluation procedures;
- interacts with the Department, University, and MUR for the administrative management of the doctoral program;
- is the official point of contact for any scientific, administrative, or relational issues that arise during the program.
Relationship with PhD Students
The PhD student does not necessarily follow all PhD students closely, but:
- guarantors their educational path,
- can intervene if the relationship between the PhD student and the supervisor is problematic,
- signs and approves many formal documents (assignments, extensions, third year, final admission).
Tutors / Supervisors (or Supervisor and Co-supervisors)
Who they are
- The tutor or supervisor is the professor (or researcher) who individually supports a PhD student in their research project.
- The tutor/supervisor is approved by the Teaching Board.
What they do
The tutor/supervisor:
- helps define the PhD student's research project;
- Provides ongoing scientific guidance (methods, bibliography, experiments, publications);
- Monitors the progress of the work and verifies the project's feasibility;
- Introduces the doctoral student to the scientific community (conferences, collaborations);
- Proposes participation in courses, workshops, and periods abroad.
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensures that the doctoral student can work in a suitable environment (laboratories, resources, data);
- Supports the student in producing scientific papers (articles, posters, theses);
- Reports any difficulties or critical issues to the coordinator.
