Luigi Botta is currently Associate Professor of "Material Science and Technology" at University of Palermo.

He graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Palermo.

From June to December 2004 he got a fellowship in the frame of a scientific collaboration related to” Preparation and characterization of blends of polyethylene and nylon” in the same university.

During 2006, he spent two months, to carry out scientific research in the frame of his PhD, at the Laboratoire des Matériaux Polymères & Biomatériaux (LMPB), University Claude Bernard Lyon I.

In 2008 he received a PhD in "Chemical Technologies and New Materials".

From February to August 2009, as a postdoctoral fellow, he conducted research entitled "Surface Modification of Polymer Films" at the University of Palermo.

From September 2009 to August 2013, he has been the holder of a Research Fellowship at the same university for the conduct of research entitled "Preparation and characterization of flexible polymer films with antimicrobial properties."

From October 2013 to October 2014, he has been a Research Fellow at the Department of Civil, Environmental, Aerospace, Materials Engineering (DICAM) of the University of Palermo.

From January 2015 to January 2021  he was as a Assistant Professor of "Material Science and Technology" at University of Palermo.

The research activity focus on the science and technology of polymeric materials with particular reference to polymer blends, composites, nanocomposites, degradation-stabilization, biopolymers, antimicrobial polymeric systems and polymeric materials for special uses (biomedical applications, active packaging and functional nanohybrids).
