The research of the Computer Forensics Lab stems from the need to provide an adequate response to recent challenges that have emerged in the field of digital data analysis for investigative and forensic purposes, the analysis of cyber attacks, and the security issues associated with machine learning (ML) algorithms.

The adoption of intelligent algorithms in various areas of everyday life is bringing to light the intrinsic vulnerabilities of machine learning models and the consequent necessity to understand their internal functioning in order to design defense mechanisms against potential attacks. Research in this field includes, for example, Adversarial Machine Learning (AML) attacks, including model extraction, membership inference, evasion, data poisoning, and related defense mechanisms.
