A Magnet hospital refers to a healthcare facility that has been recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for its excellence in nursing care and nursing practices. The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to identify and designate healthcare organizations that provide exceptional nursing care and create a positive work environment for nurses.

To achieve Magnet status, hospitals must undergo a rigorous evaluation process that includes demonstrating excellence in various areas such as nursing leadership, professional development, nurse satisfaction, and patient outcomes. Magnet hospitals are expected to have a strong nursing workforce, a commitment to continuous improvement and a culture that fosters collaboration and innovation in nursing practices.

Being designated as a Magnet hospital is considered a prestigious achievement in the healthcare industry and it often signifies a commitment to high-quality patient care and nursing excellence. Less than 10 % of USA hospitals have obtained the Magnet status and only 2 hospitals in Europe have been designated.
