COURSE DESCRIPTION AND LEARNING SKILLS:

 

 This course introduces students to gender-specific differences in medicine, with a focus on oral and bone health. It examines how biological, physiological, and hormonal factors influence disease prevalence, progression, and response to treatment, supporting the delivery of personalized, gender-sensitive care. The course also explores the impact of socioeconomic and cultural factors on healthcare access, highlighting how these determinants contribute to disparities in prevention, diagnosis, and therapy.

Students will learn to identify and analyze gender-related differences in oral pathology and pharmacological responses, developing critical skills for interpreting clinical data and selecting appropriate interventions. The curriculum emphasizes preventive strategies and evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at reducing health inequities and promoting inclusive healthcare practices.

Effective patient communication is also a key component, enabling students to enhance awareness, engagement, and adherence to care plans. By combining scientific knowledge with practical applications, the course prepares participants to address complex interactions between gender, social determinants, and clinical outcomes, ultimately fostering equitable and patient-centered healthcare.

 

Upon completing the program, students will become an expert of:

 ON COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM, THE STUDENT WILL WALK AWAY WITH: 

 - a multidisciplinary and systemic understanding of gender-specific differences in medicine, with a particular focus on oral and bone health, integrating biological, physiological, hormonal, and social determinants of health;

 

- the ability to analyze complex clinical and public health challenges and design effective, evidence-based interventions, including personalized treatment strategies, inclusive prevention policies, and gender-sensitive patient communication to promote equitable healthcare outcomes;

 

- an Open Badge certifying 3 ECTS credits.


EACH STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

 Attend 15 lectures (approximately 10 hours)

EVALUATION:

The final assessment consists of a multiple-choice quiz with 50 questions. Students have 60 minutes to complete the test. Each correct answer is worth 1 point, while incorrect answers carry no penalty. To pass, students must achieve at least 60%, which corresponds to 30 correct answers out of 50. The maximum score attainable is 50 points.
