Born in Palermo, Italy, in 1959. Degree in Civil - Hydraulic Engineering in 1985 at the University of Palermo with a dissertation in Sanitary Engineering on "Preliminary studies for a water sanitation plan in the District of Palermo". Registered as Professional Engineer in 1985.

From June 1986 to July 1993 he practised in a private Firm qualified in construction and management of wastewater treatment plants. During this period he was charged to design and start up several municipal wastewater treatment plants of small/medium size. Particularly applied to the upgrading of existing wastewater treatment plants.

Since 1989, he has collaborated in practical class work within the course of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the University of Palermo.

In 1996 he obtained the title of Dottore di Ricerca (Ph. D.) in Sanitary Engineering at Politecnico di Milano giving a dissertation on some experimental results in "Bulking in activated sludge plants".

Since 1996, appointed professor in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the University of Reggio Calabria (Italy). In 2002 he joined the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Environmental Applications of University of Palermo with the title of Researcher in Sanitary Engineering.

Author of several technical and scientific papers on the operation of wastewater treatment plants, which have been presented in international Conferences and published in scientific reviews.

At present working on: MBR, Membrane BioReactors; MBBR Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors; granular bioreactors; foaming in activated sludge basins; organic waste degradation in sanitary landfills.
