Abstract

Pervious concrete is increasingly used as a drainage material in geotechnical applications; however, its performance depends on achieving an appropriate balance between hydraulic conductivity, mechanical strength, filtra-tion capacity, and long-term resistance to clogging. Aggregate selection criteria derived from pavement applications may be inadequate in geotechnical contexts. Laboratory results show that mix designs optimized based on the grain-size dis-tribution of the base soil, particularly by adding a sand content ranging from 20 to 80% by weight to the gravel when preparing the mixture, can significantly improve the performance of pervious concrete used in drainage systems. This approach ensures sufficient long-term hydraulic conductivity, high resistance to clogging, adequate early-age strength after casting in place, and effective pro-tection against internal erosion of the surrounding soil, thereby enhancing the durability and stability of geotechnical systems.
