Mauro Lo Brutto is Associate Professor in Geomatics at Department of Engineering of University of Palermo.

He is graduated in Geology at University of Palermo; he has attended a postgraduate master in “G.I.S. (Geographical Information Systems) and Remote Sensing” organized by Formez (Naples) and won a fellowship at University of Palermo to carry out a research on “Use of satellite and photogrammetric images for erosion monitoring”. He has obtained his PhD in “Geodetic and Topographic Sciences” at University “Parthenope” of Naples in 2001.

His research activity is focused on 3D modelling, mostly for cultural heritage survey and documentation, supported by digital photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning techniques, on high resolution satellite imagery for digital mapping and on GNSS applications. He is author of about 90 papers published on national and international scientific journal and on the proceedings of national and international congresses. He has took part in many research projects and he has been the scientific director of the University of Palermo research unit inside the PRIN2008 project "ICT and Cultural Heritage. Information Technologies and Cognitive system for 3D representation".
