Tecniche digitali per la valorizzazione dei documenti di archivio: ricostruzione di architetture perdute (villa Deliella a Palermo)

Abstract

This study proposes a methodological framework for the digital enhancement and dissemination of lost architectural heritage, focusing on the reconstruction of Villa Lanza di Deliella in Palermo, designed by Ernesto Basile and demolished in 1959. Drawing upon archival documentation, historical photographs, and the few surviving architectural fragments, a comprehensive three-dimensional model of the villa was developed using advanced modeling and rendering tools (Rhino and 3D Studio Max). The virtual reconstruction aims to provide a perceptually accurate and immersive visualization of the building, bridging the gap between historical research and contemporary digital representation. Furthermore, the project explores the application of Augmented Reality (AR) technologies—implemented through Google ARCore and the Persistent Cloud Anchors feature—to virtually recontextualize the villa within its original urban setting. This integration of 3D digital modeling and AR visualization offers an innovative strategy for the interpretation, education, and valorization of lost architectural works, fostering both public engagement and the preservation of cultural memory through interactive and experiential modes of access.
