FRANCESCA COTUGNO

Tradizione corsiva nella scrittura comune del Corpus Vindolandense

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to highlight the richness of the administrative data within the Corpus Vindolandense. This corpus is composed by the Latin handwritten texts found during the archaeological excavation at the fort of Vindolanda, in Britain. It is also a remarkable primary source for linguistic and palaeographical information about the Latin written in this area of the Roman Empire between the 1st and 3rd century AD. Ligatures, modulus variation, graphic variants and abbreviation are the most common phenomena characteristics of the cursivization and minusculization processes found in the Corpus Vindolandense
