Abstract

This study investigates how external white Gaussian noise, superimposed on in vivo neuronal activities, affects the resistive state of a ZrO2(Y)-based memristor and its response to such activities. The results show that the presence of external noise of a certain intensity leads to a decrease in memristor conductivity, with the effect being more pronounced when neuronal activity containing abnormal oscillations was applied. Furthermore, increasing the noise intensity enhances these effects in both normal and pathological conditions. Overall, these findings highlight the possibility of using external noise as a tool to enhance memristor sensitivity in detecting and suppressing abnormal oscillations in neuronal activity. Such capabilities could pave the way for more reliable neuroprosthetics and devices for processing electrophysiological signals.
