Abstract
This essay explores the migratory flows of Romanian citizens to Sicily, with a particular focus on the city of Canicattì. As a historical crossroads of migration, Sicily has witnessed significant shifts in migratory patterns over time. The author examines the geographic origins of these migrants—primarily from Bucovina and Transylvania—and their socio-economic impact on the local community. The study investigates the integration of Romanians into Sicilian society, highlighting key economic, social, and bureaucratic challenges they face. Additionally, the essay reflects on cultural identity transformations and narratives of otherness, emphasizing how Romanian migrants are perceived locally and how they negotiate their sense of belonging in an ever-changing social landscape.
