Abstract
Conceptual architecture came to the fore in the Seventies as a direct consequence of the explosion of conceptual art. Yet, as many believe, architecture is always conceptual. In a memorable symposium held in London in 1975, this debate was fully developed through a variety of interesting perspectives. Concepts must be considered as fragments of theory, without oversimplifying them. In this way, they become useful for design development. On the contrary, there is a tendency to treat concepts as pragmatic tools that simplify theory to make it more easily applicable to design.
