Abstract

Near the southern entrance of the amphitheatre, along the principal thoroughfare connecting Akradina and Neapolis, are the remains of the sole definitely identifiable honorary arch in Roman Sicily. Discovered in the late 1940s, just three levels of white limestone blocks persist, and few information exists regarding the evolution of the monument’s height and its ornamental features. The aim of the present study is to elucidate the architectural characteristics of the edifice to develop a reconstructive model, while also taking into account its significant position within the Roman city.
