Insecutae sunt illae protinus Furiae Retorica e religione nella rappresentazione delle Furie in Ps. Quint. decll. min. 314 e 324

Abstract

This paper investigates the representation and significance of the Furies in the corpus of the Declamationes minores of Ps. Quintilian, with special regard to decl. min. 324 (Bona sacrilegi). Comparison with decl. min. 314 (Ego te, pater, occidi) opens the way to a better understanding of the importance of the role played by the Furies in Latin declamations, suggesting that we are dealing with much more than a mere rhetorical mo- tif. In addition, the religious and cultural dimension underlying the rhetorical represen- tations of the Furies in declamatory settings allows us to clarify the relationship between rhetoric, myth and religion in Roman culture.
