Abstract

The history of the city of Gaza remains little known, not only its Islamic history, but also its older history, with the exception of a few studies. And yet, the study of this older history allows us to better understand the extent of the political, social and cultural transformations that occurred in the aftermath of the Islamic conquest. This contribution will therefore attempt to highlight the centrality of the city of Gaza in the Mediterranean context (5th-7th centuries) through certain aspects related to the transmission and contamination between cultures that find a common denominator in the symbol of the rose
