Abstract
This essay is a description of some samples of courses for liaison interpreters available in various professional training institutions around the world, in particular for public and social interpreting services. The aim is not to give an overview of the services available internationally, which is definitely a much more ambitious project, but to identify some differences and some similarities between the various courses and to briefly discuss, from this perspective, how such training courses could be used in Italian academic or other institutions, and adapted to the many specificities of the Italian situation (in particular considering what academic institutions are able to offer, the needs of local ‘service providers’ - health workers, lawyers, etc. - and the changing political and geo-political scenario of migration flows.
