CRISTINA ROGNONI

Troina nei documenti privati greci di età normanna

Abstract

The study examines the limited yet significant Greek-language documentation preserved for Norman-period Troina, a city whose strategic position and predominantly Greek identity shaped its institutional and cultural development. The texts illuminate landholding patterns, the role of local elites and the crucial function of community elders in resolving territorial disputes through procedures rooted in Byzantine fiscal and legal traditions. The documents also highlight the interaction between royal authority, episcopal lordship, and local signorial powers in a landscape where boundaries were often fluid and contested. Overall, the surviving evidence portrays Troina as a significant center of Greek scribal culture and administrative continuity during the central Middle Ages.
