The article investigates the recent case of the athlete Imane Khelif who animated the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with particular attention on the legal-political reasons underlying the controversy. The analysis focuses on the complicated relationship between the principle of non-discrimination and the principle of competitive fairness and tries to identify possible balancing criteria that regard all the underlying protection issues
