Abstract
This article describes some contact-induced phenomena in the Aymara varieties spoken in the department of La Paz (Bolivia) and the village of Muylaque (Peru). Both varieties are in contact with Andean Spanish and display two constructions (-ni and -iri + sara ‘go’) whose functions resulted from the grammatical replication of ‘ir a + infinitive’. In Spanish, such a construction conveys two different grammatical functions, the purposive infinitive clause with the verb ir ‘go’ and the periphrastic future. This analysis shows that both -iri + sara ‘go’ and -ni replicates the purposive infinitive clause and the periphrastic future. These replication processes have involved two different grammaticalization processes typical of language contact, i.e., ordinary grammaticalization and replica grammaticalization.
