Abstract
The contribution focuses the potential of surveying and representation digital tools for the study of architecture. The case studies are three churches featuring an unusual planimetric layout with a single nave flanking the main nave, all located in the Nebrodi area in Sicily: the Annunziata in Ucria, San Pietro in Raccuja, and Santa Maria della catena in Roccavaldina. The three churches have been surveyed with laser scanning and photogrammetric methods; photographs were taken both from the ground and from the air with the aid of a drone. The drawing of plans and cross-section profiles, as well as the analysis at an urban scale, showed the presence, in all cases, of an articulated morphology of the terrain with considerable elevation changes and the location of the churches on the edge of the town. Other analyses have revealed, for the Church of St. Peter in Raccuja, the presence of interrupted construction phases and the refined geometry of architectural and decorative elements.
