Abstract

The second tome collects the studies of numerous scholars on materials from the excavation of the Byzantine Houses quarter of Gortyna of Crete. The excavation of the Byzantine Houses, conducted between 1982 and 1989, with two brief resumptions in 1991 and 2005, covers the area west of the Praetorian district, towards the Pythion, and was, in fact, the first systematic and extensive research undertaken in the area of the city. The excavation, carried out in the first person by Antonino Di Vita, with the constant and valuable collaboration of Marisa Rossi, was in fact suspended from 1989, when all of the School's energies in Gortina were directed towards resuming research in the Praetorian district.
