Abstract
Roman Sicily: history and historiography · Research concerning the history and historiography of Roman Sicily in recent years, which is reported on in this article, is distinguished by a renewed interest in several directions. The scholarship has focused on a number of major themes, from the conquest of the island to the Late Antiquity: Rome’s politics between the First and Second Punic, decision-making and diplomacy; the servile wars, how to read Diodorus; settlement in Sicily, impact of Rome and urban and rural landscapes; the testimony of Ciceronian Verrines; institutional transformations of urban centers and their interaction with settlement dynamics; late antique villae, residency, productivity, labor; the centrality of Sicily in Late Antiquity.
