Abstract

What is the role of museums and the photographic collections they house in reconstructing the colonial past? How does the use of iconographic and visual sources contribute to the reconstruction of a more complex political and cultural framework in relation to the colonial experience developed by Italian governments in the liberal era? These are some of the questions this volume attempts to answer by analyzing the case study of the former National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography in Rome, now part of the Museo delle Civiltà.
