Lo sport in mostra. Rappresentazioni e itinerari espositivi in Italia (1922-1943)

Abstract

The analysis of the space occupied by sport in some of the major temporary exhibitions organised in Italy by the Fascist regime during the twenty-year period is the core of the research presented in this volume. Sport, a social and cultural phenomenon that was hugely popular in the interwar years and a cornerstone of Mussolini's dictatorship, was incorporated into a long series of commercial, political and cultural exhibitions, becoming a valuable tool for building consensus. The public display of the sporting nation allowed the regime to make the image of the new fascist man a reality in the eyes of Italians, while also revealing the power of the new mass media languages subjected to the contingencies of propaganda.
