L’APPORTO DEL MAESTRO GIACOMO GULPELLO ALLA DEFINIZIONE DI PALAZZO SCAVUZZO A PALERMO NELLA PRIMA METÀ DEL CINQUECENTO

Abstract

In a complex and little-investigated scenario such as that of the history of architecture in the city of Palermo in the first half of the 16th century, the decisions undertaken by notary Giacomo Scavuzzo in his city house offer a significant example of stately home. On January 8, 1547, the new baron of Favara drew up an agreement with the “fabricator” Giacomo Gulpello, who undertook to construct, according to a previous drawing, four aedicule windows in his new home. This seems to follow independent paths from the late Gothic prototypes still in use in the city of Palermo. The commissioner’s choices seem to be intended to spread complex messages and meanings.
