Abstract

In central-eastern Sicily, between the 19th century and the 20th century, there was the presence of families of plasterers (Signorelli, Fantauzzo, Musolino, Massa), engaged in the decoration of churches and palaces. Their work was an important vehicle for the image of the bourgeois city. The technique is in continuity with the local tradition, characterized by few decorations in stone and many in plaster, thanks to the presence of deposits of gypsum.
