Abstract
This paper analyses the concept of “emotional reference” in architecture. It does so starting from the reasoning elaborated by Aldo Rossi in the famous introduction to the essay by Étienne-Louis Boullée Architecture - Essai sur l’art. The aim is to try to connect, through the concept of “emotional core of reference”, the figurative matrices that link three works created respectively by Raffaello Sanzio, Boullée and Francisco Sainz de Oiza. These three works are the fresco of the Vatican Halls known as “The School of Athens”, the project for the Library of France and the building of the Library of Pamplona.
