Quando tutto ebbe inizio : primi concorsi universitari nella Palermo postunitaria

Abstract

This article examines the inaugural competitive examinations at the Faculty of Law in Palermo in 1862, a pivotal moment in the Faculty’s postunification transformation. It focuses on Luigi Sampolo’s appointment to the chair of Civil law and the contested selection of Nicolò Uzzo for the chair of Civil procedure. These episodes highlight the tensions between Bourbon-era traditions and post-unification regulations, casting the academic sphere as a reflection of the broader conflict between state centralization and regionalist pressures.
