Abstract

The fifth issue of the Annals of the International Center for Semiotic Sciences of Urbino “Umberto Eco” offers a reflection on the meaning of care. Engaging directly with the maintenance studies of David Pontille and Jérôme Denis, as well as with the research of Tim Ingold, semioticians, sociologists, anthropologists, and architects examine human interventions in the health conditions of things across three sections: Destinies of Waste; Décor and Neglect. Figures of Rightness; The Care of the Landscape and the Landscape as Care, dedicated to Franco Zagari. The volume concludes with a photo-text by Ciriaco Campus and an essay on maintenance accompanied by a glossary.
