The SUM Department is characterised by many Erasmus mobility agreements with various European and non-European institutions (115 agreements, including eight double degree programmes, two-degree programmes with integrated study programmes and 1 Joint Degree). In the 2022/2023 academic year, 177 Erasmus places were made available for the first cycle, 149 places for the second cycle and 23 places for the third cycle. These agreements involve students from all courses, with a natural prevalence of students from literature and foreign languages.

The Department is also active in numerous operational networks, mobility programmes and international training projects. Examples include the numerous CoRI (International Cooperation) projects presented by the Department, both incoming and outgoing, which the University has funded in recent years. In addition, the SUM Department is an active member of the FORTHEM International Alliance (Fostering Outreach within European Regions, Transnational Higher Education and Mobility, 2019-2022 and 2022-2026), a partnership of nine universities based in nine EU Member States, coordinated by the University of Burgundy (France) and based on existing multidisciplinary skills and collaborations.
