LABORATORIES AND FACILITIES

Listen

Ph.D. students can access the full network of laboratories hosted by Department of Physics and Chemistry – Emilio Segrè (DiFC). The Department hosts a variety of laboratories fully equipped for the synthesis, analysis and advanced characterization of molecular and supra-molecular systems, bio-materials and nanomaterials, from the microscopic to the macroscopic level, as well as a wide range of computing facilities. Our Ph.D. students are also granted full access to further resources and equipment made available by INAF and IASF.

Ph.D. candidates are allowed full access to the whole network of Libraries directly mantained by the central University and by the School of Basic Sciences, as well as to the two libraries hosted by DiFC. Ph.D. Students also use the ISI-WOS (Clarivate Analytics) and Scopus databases and electronically access a wide range of scholarly e-journals (e.g. American Physical Society, American Chemical Society, Institute of Physics, Springer, Elsevier, Nature, Science).

Our students routinely use specialized software, such as: Astrophysics-oriented software (SCAN, IDL, R, PYTHON); Molecular and Quantum Mechanics software (Gaussian, SIESTA, Psi3, Molpro, Dirac10, NWCHEM, VASP, DL_POL); Molecular visualization tools (Molden, Molekel, gOpenMol); Data analysis and instrument control (Igor Pro, Origin, Python, Matlab); Atomistic simulation tools (NAMD, VMD, MDAnalysis, HOLE, GIMP, Inkscape, Pymol, Rasmol, Avogadro, Clulstal X, Jmol, Grace.
